The distribution channel is the marketing mechanism used to present, deliver and
maintain the product. Decide the goals and strategies for the next three to five
years!
The delivery
This is the most important part of every company. Without actually supplying
the product nothing gets sold and consequently no payment is received. Make sure
your delivery is always as quick as possible and done with the greatest care. To
ensure this the distribution mix needs to be properly planned.
The table shows most of the possible distribution channels available.
You must collect information on what you are using at the present:
- the long channel (wholesaler/distributor, shop,
consumer)
- products bought often, by many consumers, in small quantities, use is
evident
- the short channel (shop, consumer)
- products that spoil, have high cost of transport, difficult to use or
install, tailor made
- the direct channel (no links in between, direct to
consumer)
- as short channel, but also services
- intensive, selective or exclusive distribution
- your own representatives or agents
